Cythia grew up with dwarf-like people. Her mother tried to keep her daughters safe and hidden from Sithmora. Living in holes and tunnels beneath The Meadow of Nyrins seemed to be the best bet. She never met her father, but she fell for her mother's stories that she would tell them at night. She said he was a sort of explorer. He never stayed long in places. He was always on the move. Despite his lack of presence in her life, Cythia remained determined to hunt down her father and finally meet him. Ask him dozens of questions, ranging from why he vanished to what he had seen throughout his time traveling. However, before she could ever meet him, her mother opened up about his death. A Sithmora had murdered him.
One day when she and her sister were playing in the woods, they got separated when Birin grabbed Cythia and led her to the edge of the meadow. He tried to hold her there with him, but she could sense something was wrong. She escaped his grip and found her mother and sister tied up. Before she could help, she was held back and knocked down by a Sithmora. She tried to fight back, but after another one appeared, she didn't stand a chance. They made her watch as they brutally killed her little sister and then her mother. Cythia slipped into unconsciousness as they took her away to begin her training.
Her first appearance in the books was a tortoiseshell cat; however, we mainly associate her with fiery red hair and a fierce fighter spirit. Just like everyone, she is not always strong. Despite her tough demeanor, she will soon hit the lowest point of her life. Even after losing her mother and her little sister, she endures. Even after being tortured and trained by Sithmora, she remains seemingly unbroken. Even after she lost everyone she cares about (except her soulmate, Fitin). Cythia hits a wall when she loses a life she learns she will never have. If you have read Part Three: The Final Battle of the first book, The Deity Jewels, then you already know what I am referring to.
If you haven't read The Final Battle, beware of the spoilers at the end of this blog.
